Overview
Tangem Pay is a genuinely non-custodial Visa payment card built into the Tangem Wallet app, launched in November 2025. Unlike exchange cards that hold your funds, your USDC stays in a self-custodial smart-contract account controlled by your Tangem hardware wallet until the moment you pay. At checkout, the exact USDC amount is deducted on-chain and settled through Visa in US dollars, no pre-conversion, no handing assets to a custodian. A dual-key system (your Tangem wallet key plus issuer partner Rain's key) authorises transactions, preventing unilateral fund movement.
It is currently virtual-only, funded exclusively with native USDC on the Polygon network, and works anywhere Visa is accepted via Apple Pay or Google Pay. Fees are close to zero, no monthly, transaction, or conversion fees, with only tiny Polygon gas on top-ups and standard Visa FX on non-USD spending. The major trade-offs: it requires owning a Tangem hardware wallet, mandates KYC for the payment account (the wallet itself stays private), supports only USDC-on-Polygon today, and, importantly, offers no cashback or rewards.
Using a referral code at sign-up may unlock a welcome perk where Tangem Card offers one (a 10% discount). Availability and amounts are set by the provider and vary by region.
Rating breakdown
How the Tangem Card scores across the categories we weigh into its overall 8.3/10.
Cashback & rewards
Tangem Pay offers no cashback, points, or crypto rewards at launch, this is a deliberate, utility-first product focused on self-custody and low fees rather than incentives. Because it spends USDC 1:1 against USD with no conversion spread and no monthly or transaction fees, the value proposition is cost savings and sovereignty, not earning. Tangem has said future features like referral bonuses and optional yield on the USDC balance are planned, but none are live as of mid-2026. If cashback is your main reason for wanting a crypto card, this is not the one.

Is It Worth It?
Best for self-custody purists and existing Tangem hardware-wallet owners who want to spend USDC day-to-day without handing assets to an exchange or custodian. Ideal for people who value control, privacy, and near-zero fees over rewards, and who are comfortable holding USDC on Polygon. A poor fit for cashback chasers, anyone wanting multi-asset spending or a physical card/ATM access, or users who don't own (and don't want) a Tangem wallet.
