Overview
The Ledger CL Card (Crypto Life) is a debit card built for Ledger hardware-wallet users, powered by the Baanx-run CL platform and integrated directly into Ledger Live (now Ledger Wallet). Its defining trait is the security bridge: your long-term crypto stays in self-custody on your Ledger device, and you top up the card from it only when you want to spend, with automatic crypto-to-fiat conversion at checkout. It's the only card that combines hardware-secured cold storage, a spending card, and native BTC yield (via Lombard/Figment) in one app, plus crypto-backed credit lines (Cryptodraft/Stableloans) from 0% APR.
Using Ledger CL Card's referral code at sign-up may unlock a welcome perk where the provider offers one. Availability and amounts are set by Ledger CL Card and vary by region โ check their site for current terms.
Rating breakdown
How the Ledger CL Card scores across the categories we weigh into its overall 7.5/10.
Cashback & rewards
The Ledger CL Card pays 1% cashback with no staking requirement, credited monthly and claimable in-app. You choose the reward asset: BTC or USDC in the US, BTC or USDT in other countries โ or up to 2% if you opt to receive it in BXX, Baanx's own (volatile) token. Because the standard reward is BTC or a stablecoin, US/stablecoin users get predictable value while BTC-takers get price exposure. The crucial caveat is net economics: the 1% is only clearly positive when you fund the card from a fiat balance. Crypto-funded transactions incur a 2% card-spend fee (plus 1.75% FX on non-base-currency spend), which can turn spending into a net loss โ so the rewards work best paired with fiat funding. Cashback excludes transactions funded by Cryptodraft credit.
| Tier | Requirement | Cashback | Monthly cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (BTC/stablecoin) | Enable loyalty program, no staking | 1% in BTC, USDC (US) or USDT (non-US) | Monthly, on all card spend |
| BXX option | Choose BXX as reward asset | 2% in BXX (volatile token) | Monthly, on all card spend |
| Cryptodraft-funded spend | N/A | 0% (excluded from rewards) | Not eligible |

Pros & cons
Pros
- Unique hardware-wallet integration, cold storage, spending, and BTC yield in one app
- Self-custody until you top up the card (your Ledger holdings stay under your keys)
- 1% cashback (up to 2% in BXX) with no staking requirement
- Choose cashback in BTC or a stablecoin (USDC in US, USDT elsewhere)
- Crypto-backed credit lines (Cryptodraft/Stableloans) from 0% APR
- Broad availability including the US (most states), Canada, and LATAM
- Apple Pay and Google Pay supported; free virtual card
Cons
- 2% card-spend fee on crypto-funded transactions (fiat funding avoids it)
- 1.75% FX markup on non-base-currency spend; combined drag ~3.75% on crypto spend
- Once funds move to the card, they leave self-custody (card balance is provider-managed)
- BXX 2% option pays a volatile token
- Requires full KYC; must reside in a supported country
- Reports of high effective spreads and slow customer support
- Not available in New York or Vermont (US); must pre-fund (debit model)
Is It Worth It?
Best for Ledger hardware-wallet owners and long-term hodlers who want to keep assets in cold storage and spend via the same app without routing through an exchange. Strong for users who value the security integration and native BTC yield, and who fund the card from fiat to keep the 1% cashback net-positive. A poor fit for those who'll spend directly from crypto (the 2% + 1.75% fees erode value), NY/VT residents, or anyone wanting the lowest-fee or fully self-custodial-at-point-of-sale card.
